Blogs can be used a multitude of ways for a small business. You can use a blog to create a community, offer suggestions or create reviews of products. Recently, I have had great success in creating a blog external to a customers site offering product reviews.

While this customers particular product is saturated in the Search engines by writing product reviews, we have captured customers in the research phase of their buying decision driving traffic to their main site. A blog of this type allow you to create external backlinks, anchored text and promoted properly can be picked up by the blog directories to promote even further This technique has been very effective for the long tail keywords of particular product searches.

By starting a basic blog on wordpress.com, you can still use you keywords or company branding in the site name building trust and loyalty with you customers.
